   Job Title:  Adoption Coordinator

Department: Animal Control

Reports to:        Director of Animal Control

Pay Range:       Starting Range - $10.00 plus benefits 

 

SUMMARY: 

Assists public with animal adoptions in the animal shelter, evaluates animal behavior, and complies records of impounded animals by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •   Accurately maintains proper record keeping on all shelter animals, tracking intake and dispatching of all animals
  •   Assess health and behavior of animals prior to decision of dispatching animal, (placing for adoption, placing with rescue, euthanasia); reports health issues to veterinarian or department head
  • Assists the veterinary in caring for and administration of vaccinations, and treatments of shelter animals  Assists the public in adoption, redemption and lost and found services in a courteous and professional manner
  • Advises new owners of pet examination, adoption contract, and spay/neutering requirements
  • Prepares and grooms animals prior to adoption in order to present a clean and healthy animal
  • Prepares for and attends all adoption fairs at the shelter as well as off site
  • Maintains list of prospective pet owners and contacts them when desired type of pet is available                                                                                                                                                                                                         
  • Prepares license forms, enters information on computer and collects fees
  • Compiles and maintains daily records required by animal shelter describing stray animals found by shelter workers and animals turned in by public
  • Performs cleaning and shelter maintenance as needed to insure the cleanliness and safety of the shelter, the public and the staff
  •  Performs euthanasia on shelter animals, prepares rabies specimens lab testing, and performs microchipping on animals leaving the shelter
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director or Veterinary Administrator

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Must submit to a criminal background check to provide verification of no past felony convictions and no animal cruelty convictions.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate' s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Euthanasia technician certification required or to be obtained within three months from hire date. Behavior certification helpful but not required.

 

Hours for this position are generally Tuesday – Saturday (35 hours per week), but may include occasional Sundays and holidays.
